  • Optimize the timetables

Timetable optimization is the last stage in timetable construction - don't ignore it! It allows you to significantly improve the quality of your timetables. What's more, it's effortless: just leave the computer on! Improvements are displayed in real time, and are visible from the very first minute.
  1. Once you have placed all the courses, go to the menu Calculation > Optimize of the timetables for the teachers/classes.
  2. By default, optimizing teacher timetables doesn't degrade the class's timetables (and vice versa); most of the time, it's the timetables as a whole that improve. However, you can choose to optimize one or the other, and if you wish to further optimize, you can specify a percentage of quality loss allowed.

  3. Use the drop-down menus to prioritize the improvement criteria:
    • provide as many free half-days as possible;
    • reduce gaps by taking into account the individual thresholds defined in the display Timetable > Teachers > List;
    • avoid isolated courses (a course is considered isolated when it stands alone in a half-day and lasts less than 2 time sequences).
  4. Click on the button Launch the optimization: you can follow the optimization on the graphs.
  5. Wait several attempts (5 to 7) or, better still, let EDT run overnight. Be patient, and your timetables will be all the better for it. Nevertheless, you should know that in the event of an interruption, the improvements will not be lost.
