  • Edit the links between the class parts

The existence of a link between two class parts indicates that these two parts cannot have courses at the same time: they have (or may have) students in common.

As a precaution, EDT establishes a link between two parts from different partitions. Consider, for example, a class with two partitions: LV2 and LATIN. A student majoring in Spanish could potentially also be majoring in Latin; therefore, EDT cannot take the risk of scheduling Spanish and Latin classes at the same time. To address this, it links each LV2 part with the LATIN part by default.

Remove a link between two class parts

If you know that two class parts will never have any students in common (for example, because no student taking Spanish also takes Latin), manually remove the link between these two parts: EDT may then be able to schedule the corresponding classes at the same time, resulting in better timetables.

  1. Go to the display Timetable > Classes > Links between parts.
  2. Select one of the two parts from the list on the left.
  3. On the right, in the column Parts, remove the link corresponding to the other part with a double-click.

Note
You can also remove a link on the fly from the timetable. To do this, double-click the concerned course to activate diagnostic mode, then move the green template over the course that is causing the conflict: the icon  appears on the course form, next to the concerned part, right-click on the link and choose Delete the link.
Note
If the parts have at least one student in common, the link is no longer optional and cannot be deleted. If you want to ignore this timetable incompatibility for a few students, you can add them to the desired course as detached students (Detach a student from their class to add them to another course).

Remove all unnecessary links

  1. Go to the display Timetable > Classes > Links between parts.
  2. In the menu Edit, choose Delete the optional links: EDT deletes all manual links that are not justified by the actual presence of students.
