Automatically generate needs groups for mixed alignments
This possibility is worth exploring if you don't have a sufficient number of subject teachers available in the same time slot: it allows French and Math courses to be aligned in the same time slot.
If you have a sufficient number of French/Mathematics teachers. You then create complex courses with all the classes in the level.
If you have a sufficient number of French/Mathematics teachers. You then create complex courses with all the classes in the level.
Step 1: Generate the programs
- Go to the display Timetable > Specializations and needs >
Program offer.
- Click on Create an offer for the concerned ETM and select the 5th grade ETM in the selection window.
- Below, click on Define the studies proposed by the offer and tick the two subjects listed previously.
- On the right, click on Create a program and choose Generate all the possible programs: EDT displays all possible combinations, taking into account the two subjects and the three possible needs.
- If, at this stage, you don't yet have the actual needs of the students: enter the probable number of students for each combination. If you plan to divide students into only two needs, ignore all combinations containing C needs.
If you have the students' actual needs, enter them or import them before generating the courses, and select the command Generate the necessary programs.
Step 2: enter the constraints and alignments of the population
- Go to the display Timetable > Specializations and needs >
Generate the program groups.
- Enter the maximum population for each study: number of groups required is automatically updated. If necessary, click on the button
to enter different populations according to
the groups. - Below, in the frame Generation of the groups, leave the option By distributing the groups in two alignments. If you want certain alignments, click on Predefine the alignments and drag & drop the concerned groups onto one or other of the alignments.
- At the bottom, click on the button Generate the necessary groups.
Step 3: Generate the groups
EDT tries to generate groups so that all students can work on two alignments at the same time.
- In the pop-up window, validate without ticking the option to generate variable population groups. As a reminder, this is useful if the composition of groups is modified on a week-by-week basis. If the composition of the groups is changed only a few times a year, this is not necessary, you can make changes by drag-and-drop. In any case, this parameter can be changed at a later date.
- EDT creates groups (and all necessary class parts)
- If EDT has found an optimal solution, you will obtain in the column Alignment only 1 or 2: this means that all French and Math courses can be aligned, with no gaps in the timetables.
If a group remains on an alignment Undefined, the course cannot be aligned with the others. You can try changing the maximum population and restarting a generation.
Step 4: generate the courses for the needs groups
Here you specify the characteristics of the courses to be created. EDT creates one course per group, and aligns them within complex courses.
- Double-click in the column Teachers to assign a teacher to each group.
- Select all groups and at the bottom, click on the button Create the courses of the selected groups.
- In the course creation window, create as many copies as you need.
- Validate: in the pop-up window, leave the option Align courses while complying to the planned alignments.
- Complex courses are created, with as subject, the designation of the offer; all specifications have been incorporated.
- At the bottom, click on the button Assign the students to the groups.
- Validate in the pop-up window.
If the assignment of students doesn't suit you perfectly, you can easily make adjustments.
