Support Support PRONOTE
  • We don't use Windows operating systems: how do I install PRONOTE on MacOS or Linux?

Index Education applications are designed for installation on Microsoft Windows workstations. However, they can be installed (with the exception of PRONOTE.net, as long as the HTTP server service has not been implemented by the Wine teams) on Mac workstations via software such as Wine or PlayOnMac (which includes Wine). However, it is strongly recommended that the supervisor (SPR or superadministrator) logs in from a workstation running Microsoft Windows.

Solution only for MacOS

For users who don't want to install Wine on their own, Index Education offers a package including the Client PRONOTE + Wine.

Prerequisite:
  • have a recent version of MacOS (MacOS 10.13 and later);
  • specify in System preference > Security and privacy > General tab: Allow applications downloaded from: "Anywhere".

Solution pour MacOS et Linux

Prerequisite: you must have at least version 9.0 of Wine, otherwise the software will not launch (libcef.dll fails to load).

Option 1: Installation with Wine

The following commands must be typed in a terminal.

  1. Checking the Wine version
    wine64 –version This returns wine 9.0, for example.
  2. Windows version as seen by applications
    wine64 winecfg /v win11
  3. Installation of the Client PRONOTE
    wine Install_xxx_win64.exe (specify path if necessary)
  4. Launch Client PRONOTE
    WINEDEBUG=-nls wine64 ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Index\ Education/ .../Client\ PRONOTE.exe

Option 2: Installation with CrossOver
  1. Launch CrossOver.
  2. Via the menu Bottle/New bottle create a bottle type Windows 11 or Windows 10 64-bit.
  3. In the left-hand bar, select the new bottle, then right-click on the button Install an application in the bottle.
  4. Choose Install an unlisted application.
  5. Click on the first button Edit to select the Client PRONOTE installer, then on Install.

Problems you may encounter
  • If you have two screens, there's a problem loading libcef.dll (Chromium Embedded FrameWork) which may prevent the application from launching. In this case, go to the tab Display of Wine's configuration window, tick Emulate a virtual desktop with a desktop size that suits your screen, for example, 1600 x 1280.
  • If the screen resolution is too small, the IECefSubProcess.exe process may crash. Try increasing the screen resolution.
  • The HTTP proxy configuration test (menu Support > HTTP Configuration) causes Wine to crash if an HTTP server requires "Basic" authentication.
Warning
The diversity of Linux distributions and the variety of behavior within a single distribution mean that we cannot guarantee that Index Education applications will run optimally on Linux workstations. While we are now able to reproduce all Windows configurations, it is not physically possible to do the same for Linux. What's more, our support team cannot master all distributions and their versions. The use of our software on Linux is therefore reserved for institutions with the necessary local skills, and a good command of their system environment and firewall.
