How can you improve security and prevent PRONOTE accounts from being hacked?
PRONOTE's default configuration complies with high security standards. In the event of a malicious attack, additional measures can be implemented to prevent identity theft.
Make dual authentication mandatory for everyone
Dual authentication is an effective security measure that requires users to enter a PIN code (at least 4 digits) when logging in from a new device. In practice, this prevents a student who has stolen a teacher's password from logging in from home.
By default, staff and faculty members are required to enter their PIN code. You can make this mandatory for all other types of users, including students.
- Go to the menu Parameters > General options > Protecting accounts
- Select the concerned user type from the left, such as students.
- Select Impose a solution and tick Enter a PIN code.
- If students' e-mail addresses are entered, you can allow them to reset their PIN if they forget it.
Force the change of passwords
If you suspect identity theft, you can quickly require users—such as all teachers—to change their passwords.
- Go to one of the following displays:
- Resources > Teachers/Students/Staff/Inspectors >
List, - Resources > Guardians >
Information form, - Internships > Internship counselors > List.
- Resources > Teachers/Students/Staff/Inspectors >
- Select the concerned users. To select all users in the list, use the shortcut Ctrl + A.
- Right-click and select the appropriate command depending on the user:
- for the teachers and staff: Modify the selection > Password and PIN code > Force password change,
- for the students: Modifier le mot de passe et le code PIN (Students Webspace) > Force password change,
- for the guardians: Modify the selection > Password and PIN code> Force password change,
- for the inspectors: Modify the selection > Password and PIN code (Regional Education Authority Webspace) > Force password change,
- for the internship counselors: Modify > Password and PIN code > Force password change.
- In the column Password, the icon
appears. The user must change this password the next time they log in.
Raise awareness among users
Remind all users that most security breaches can be prevented by following a few simple practices:
- never keep your password in plain text or in plain sight,
- make sure your login identifiers are not visible,
- use strong, unique passwords.
