  • How to install a PRONOTE Campus Client on a Mac OS or Linux workstation (hosted mode)

Index Education applications are designed to be installed on workstations running Microsoft Windows. However, they can be installed (with the exception of the servers) on Mac OS or Linux workstations using software such as Wine or CrossOver. However, supervisors are strongly advised to connect from a workstation running Microsoft Windows.

Solution for Mac OS only

For users who don't want to install Wine on their own, Index Education offers a package including PRONOTE Campus + Wine.

Prerequisites:
  • have a recent version of Mac OS (Mac OS 10.15 and later);
  • specify in System preferences > Security and confidentiality > General Tab: Authorize the applications downloaded from: " Anywhere ".

Solution for Mac OS and Linux

Prerequisites: starting with HYPERPLANNING 2024, Wine version 9.0 minimum, otherwise the software will not launch (libcef.dll loading failure).

Option 1: Installation with Wine (version 9.0 or higher, example with the PRONOTE Campus Client)

The following commands must be entered in a terminal.
  1. Verification of the Wine version
    wine64 --version This returns, for example, wine 9.0.
  2. Windows version as seen by applications
    wine64 winecfg /v win11
  3. Installation of Client PRONOTE Campus
    wine Install_xxx_win64.exe (Specify the path if necessary.)
  4. Lanching of Client PRONOTE Campus
    WINEDEBUG=-nls wine64 ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Index\ Education/ .../Client\ HYPERPLANNING.exe
  5. For HYPERPLANNING 2023 the application will reconfigure Wine upon first launch and will need to be restarted.

Option 2: Installation with CrossOver (example with Client PRONOTE Campus)

  1. Launch CrossOver.
  2. From the menu Bottle/New bottle, create a Windows 10 32-bit type bottle.
  3. In the left-hand bar, select the new bottle, then right-click on the button Install an application in the bottle.
  4. Choose Install an unlisted application.
  5. Click on the first button Edit to choose the installation program for Client PRONOTE Campus, then on Install.
Known problems
  • If you have two screens, there's a problem loading libcef.dll (Chromium Embedded FrameWork) which may prevent the application from launching. In this case, go to the tab Display in the Wine configuration window, tick Emulate a virtual desktop with a desktop size that suits your screen, for example 1600 x 1280.

  • If the screen resolution is too small, the IECefSubProcess.exe process may crash. Try increasing the screen resolution.

  • The HTTP proxy configuration test (menu Assistance > HTTP Configuration) causes Wine to crash if an HTTP server requires "Basic" authentication.
Warning

The diversity of Linux distributions and the variety of behavior within the same distribution mean that we can't guarantee optimal operation of our applications on Linux workstations. While we are now able to reproduce all Windows configurations, it is not materially possible to achieve the same under Linux. What's more, our support team cannot master all distributions and versions. The use of our software under Linux is therefore reserved for institutions with the necessary on-site skills, and a good command of their system environment and firewall.
