  • Manage the rules for the personalization of passwords

1. Manage the rules for the personalization of passwords

When users log on to PRONOTE Campus, they use a PRONOTE Campus password. The first time they log in, they use an automatically generated temporary password, which they personalize according to the rules defined in PRONOTE Campus. By default, these rules comply with the CNIL (French Data Protection Authority) recommendations. You can verify this in the menu Parameters > General Parameters > Security.
  1. Go to the menu Parameters > General Parameters > Security.
  2. Consult the list of user types on the left. A red cross is displayed if the configuration of a profile does not meet the recommendations of the CNIL

  3. If necessary, modify the rules to comply with CNIL recommendations.

Caution, rule changes only apply to future personalization. To ensure that all passwords used quickly comply with the new rules, it is necessary to force passwords to be changed.

2. Offer a dual authentication

Dual authentication is the most effective security measure. It requires users to enter a PIN code (at least 4 digits) when they log in from a new device (and only in this case). By default, the implementation of dual authentication is proposed when the user logs in for the first time, but it is not required. You can choose precisely the measures proposed to staff and teachers at this stage.
  1. Go to the menu Parameters > General parameters > Security.
  2. Select a user type.
  3. In the frame Connection from a new device, you can choose to impose a solution or leave it up to the user to define additional security measures.

  4. You can define what you want to impose, or what you want to offer users:
    • for optimal security, select Impose a solution, then Enter a PIN code.

The option Authorize PIN code reset request allows users who have forgotten their PIN code to set a new one. Please note, only people for whom a valid e-mail address is entered in PRONOTE Campus will be able to use this PIN code reset feature.
    • to ensure minimum security and leave an alternative for users, you can select Give a choice for a solution, then tick Enter a PIN code or Notification of connections (which allows at least to be notified if a connection from a new device is detected).

Dual authentication is an effective and normally non-restrictive measure. If you notice that users are systematically asked for dual authentication (and not only from a new device), you must set up the browsers of the devices concerned.
