Protecting your account with a PIN code
Protecting your account with a PIN code is to define a code of at least 4 digits that you'll need to enter when you connect to PRONOTE from a new device. By protecting your account with a PIN code and respecting other basic security measures (strong password, no password entry or PIN code in retro-projection mode, etc.) you considerably reduce the risk of your account being hacked. Anyone in possession of your password will not be able to log on from an unrecognized computer.
Set a PIN code upon connection
If entering a PIN is compulsory, you will be asked to set one when you log in to PRONOTE.
- After entering your login identifiers, a new window will appear. In the rubric Strengthen the security of my account, then set your PIN, which must be at least 4 digits: use the keypad to enter the code, then confirm it by clicking the button Validate each time.
Avoid choosing a combination that could be easily guessed (the current year, your birthday, a famous date, etc.). - If you're logging in from a secure device that you'll use regularly, add it to your list of recognized devices: you won't be asked for your PIN when you log in from that device.
- Click on Next.
Set your PIN code once connected
If your institution does not require you to enter a PIN code, you can define one yourself in your account settings.
- Go to My preferences > SECURITY > Protecting my account.
- In the rubric Strengthen the security of my account tick Set a PIN code.
- In the pop-up window, use the numeric keypad to enter the code (at least 4 digits), then confirm it by clicking the button Validate each time.
- The PIN setup is complete.
Depending on your configuration, you may also be offered an option Notification only. Please note that this is an alternative measure that is effective only if you respond immediately. If you receive a notification (via PRONOTE and by e-mail) even though you haven't logged in from a new device, you must immediately take the necessary steps (including changing and strengthening your password and PIN).
Register a new device
When you connect to a new device, if it's a secure workstation from which you'll be logging in regularly, add it to the list of recognized devices once authentication has been successfully completed: you'll no longer be asked for the PIN code when you log in from this workstation.
View the list of registered devises
To view the registered devices and delete a device, go to My preferences > SECURITY > Protecting my account.
Reacting to suspicious connections
If you receive an e-mail notification when you haven't logged in from a new device, change your password and PIN code immediately from My preferences > SECURITY > Protecting my account or ask your Principal to reset them.
